Virtualized Game Play on Parallels Desktop 5 and vmware Fusion 3
macvillagepro.com Here is the last in a series of blog posts and screencasts on Virtualization software from both Parallels and vmware fusion. The focus of this screencast is purely on game play and my experiences with both products. I hope you enjoy it and if you want to read my blog entries about it check out my blog at http

@wkharris and if i run it by windows 7?

When I tried this last November the short answer – No. Game would start then then lock up the who VM! Not pretty, however I would check the Parallels support forums to see if someone has tested it since then.

Glad you liked the series. . . I need to start another series. . . Funny about Fusion over Parallels at the Apple store, but I am not too surprised.
So MS Office for Windows over Mac Office – tough one – think about how often you are going to use office and what other Windows apps you are going to run. BOth are file compatible with each other. What I would do – go with the Student/Home Edition of Mac Office unless you need MS Exchange – Best of Luck!

This was a good video series. . .
Funny enough apple store employees have all been recommending Fusion over Parallels, which I thenk is because that is what they use in store for iPhone activation. . .
Personaly from reviews like yours I have concluded to draw the Parallels straw. . .
Many thanks.
Should I get MS Office for windows or for mac-what would you recommend?

Your Welcome! I think your specs will be fine for Company of Hero’s a very good RTS! Configure the VM to use 2GB RAM and Just make sure you set the VM for optimized performance for VM and turn power consumption to better performance. I think it should play well.

@wkharris
Thanks for the video.
Could you help with this.
1. ) My system spec Macbook 4GB 2. 26 Ghz core 2 duo
Would I be better off running windows vista on bootcamp
2. ) Do you think Parallels would run RTS like Company of Hero’s well?

Actually the screen capture software made game play laggy, Parallels did a decent job on gaming. Unfortunately there was no way around this while I was capturing the screen cast.
March 22nd, 2010 at 4:17 am
looks lagy.
March 22nd, 2010 at 5:13 am
yeah right that dude said great game no lag run perfect (lego on parallels 5) what the f*** that has lots of lag or it could just be his screen recorder
March 22nd, 2010 at 5:48 am
Having looked up, apparently quite a few games run on Parallels 5 rather well, even Halo. I guess C&C Generals is just awkward. :/

Yeah, it’s what I generally stick to console games. I mean, one of the PC games I have (it’s 2D so it runs smoothly on Parallels), has a stupid system, that you can only install it to one computer, to install it on another, you must uninstall the game and the serial number (which doesn’t work as guided by the manual), making is a nightmare if you were to re-install it, having to email the games company to deactivate your code for you.
None the less, let’s hope 6 will support more 3D games?
March 22nd, 2010 at 6:45 am
I have the game but have not tried it. IMHO the PC gaming industry has all but killed itself by making it so cumbersome to get games to work on PC’s and then just ridiculous copy protection schemes that make it a real chore to play games. It’s too bad but I think consoles have finally won out over PC games.
March 22nd, 2010 at 7:09 am
I see, but I don’t think that’s the case with mine, it’s for certain that C&C Generals plays on XP which is what I’m emulating.
I guess it does vary from game to game, maybe some later ones will work?
Well, that one is to be decided when someone posts about it. It’s not like I’m too bothered really, I really don’t have much PC games and in terms of 3D ones I want to play, even fewer, like 3 in total maybe?
March 22nd, 2010 at 7:25 am
You know that’s a tough one – I do know that as an example Halo 2 would not play but it was not due to PD5 but that Halo came with MS Live 1, which is not supported with Windows 7!
What I would suggest you do is go to the Parallels support forum and research particular games – in fact here is a link to a forum post where support is looking for specific requests for game support. Good Luck

I’m not sure what 3D games 5 supports, but having tried, I know it doesn’t support C&C Generals, which is how many years old again?
So, I’m having doubts that it could support later released games for the PC, though not totally sure.

dude 2gb of ram should do it. 8 would be best obviously but 4 would be fine.
i dont know why youd play cod4 instead of mw2 but i still play waw on my 360 so i shouldnt be talking.
im also trying to figure out if parallels lags because i want to make music using FL Studio but if it lags the music could come out all fucked up.
FALLOUT 3, GREAT GAME.
